I weep just looking at Jerry Douglas. It’s like I get enveloped in his world whenever I listen to him play. My ultimate dream would be to stand in the middle of persons guys just to be around them. Alison is and always will be my inspiration in singing, and Jerry my idol. If only I could play with him once….

This style is neither wholly bluegrass nor wholly country, so to argue it as either is ignorant. Most modern standard composition is a fusion of two or more genres to make a unique sound. Even country and bluegrass are fusions themselves. Country came from fusions of rock and blues elements, and bluegrass originating out of folk-style composition typically around the Appalachian regions. This song blends fantastic country-style slide guitar and harmonies with angelic modern bluegrass vocal style. Beautful!

I like this song. It reminds me of my grandma and grandpa who both loved bluegrass. I miss them so much…

also, her accent is incredible

Bluegrass and Country use akin instruments, but so does more generalized acoustic rock composition.

I’d say that country and bluegrass are separate sufficient to be in their own categories. Country composition is most defined by its use of harmony, while bluegrass composition weaves several different melodies into a coherent whole.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that’s amusing. NOT!!!

dlivers9704 July 15, 2010 at 6:34 am

blurgrass is sub to nothing, it is of its own, if anything country is a sub category of bluegrass!! And this has to be one of my most favorite Krauss songs of all time

hey, check out Sierra Hull & Highway 111! She just turned 18 and they already comparing her to Alison!

OperaNotes July 15, 2010 at 6:40 am

well, i agree it does not sound like the common view of country, but the fact is that it is a sub-genre. ;) but i am in like with bluegrass, really, i am. thanks to this angelic accent.

1996WHW July 15, 2010 at 6:47 am

Real Bluegrass is nothing like Country. :)

OperaNotes July 15, 2010 at 7:27 am

bluegrass is a sub-group of country. ;)

1996WHW July 15, 2010 at 8:22 am

Bluegrass, not country.

OperaNotes July 15, 2010 at 9:20 am

i just learned this incredible accent today and cannot get sufficient. who would have thought i would fall in like with country like this? incredible woman.

rosskstar July 15, 2010 at 9:53 am

it’s fantastic to hear a singer lose the fake hillbilly twang that dominates country composition…..ayeeeeeee i’m so sick of it!!

Skyheights99 July 15, 2010 at 10:20 am

Such a gorgeous accent. Makes me very lucky to hear Alison sing.

I don’t hear any banjo. What I do hear are guitars and dobro – and that’s gorgeous, especially the dobro

prosperia July 15, 2010 at 11:06 am

Incredible song! Gorgeous lyrics and technical all at the same time! A challenge and a joy to sing. Tell her I said that. :)
